Hearing Dogs for Deaf People Nearly nine million of the UK population experience some degree of hearing loss. That’s one person in every seven. Over 650,000 of these people are severely or profoundly deaf and could benefit from a hearing dog. Hearing dogs change lives. They alert their deaf owners to sounds we take for granted, providing greater independence, confidence and security. Most are selected from rescue centres or donated as unwanted pets. http://www.hearingdogs.org.uk/ - Details |

Down's Syndrome Association
We are the only organisation in this country focusing solely on all aspects of living successfully with Down’s syndrome. Since 1970, we have grown from being a local parent support group to a national charity with over 20,000 members, a national office in Teddington Middlesex, offices in Northern Ireland and Wales and a regional development team. Despite this, the organisation is run by a total staff of only 38 (many of them part time), and a network of around 100 regional volunteer-led support groups. Comments: 0; Added: 11-10-2007)

Your Level Best
This website was created by a wheelchair-user who likes to socialize by meeting friends and family in pubs or restaurants--so of course these places must be disabled-accessible. The toilets must be wheelchair-accessible, too. Venues listed here claim to meet these criteria. Although the law has changed and improved the situation for disabled customers, most pubs and restaurants are NOT disabled aware yet. That's why there's a need for a list like this Comments: 0; Added: 02-10-2007)
