Health information at your fingertips - Patient UK
Patient UK was first launched in 1997 by PiP (Patient Information Publications). It started as a directory of UK websites which provided information of health, disease and related issues. In December 2002, Patient UK was re-launched as a joint venture between PiP and EMIS (Egton Medical Information Systems). For the re-launch Patient UK has been extensively revised and considerably more content has been added. Our aim is to be a reliable and comprehensive source of health and disease information, mainly aimed at the UK general public, but of interest to all. Comments: 0; Added: 22-03-2008)

Spinal Injuries Association (SIA)
SIA was set up in 1974 in order to support people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). The founders themselves had SCI and, to this day, SIA is run by a board of trustees who live with spinal cord injury. An injury to the spinal cord can be caused by a number of factors, from sporting activities through to disease and road traffic accidents. The majority of injuries result in paralysis, and the impact of such an injury can turn lives upside down. Individuals living with the impairment, and their families, are faced with not only the challenge of coming to terms with the injury, but also rebuilding their lives with a disability. With the right support, encouragement and information, people can look forward to enjoying a full and independent life with SCI. Comments: 0; Added: 04-10-2007)

Burnham Institute for Medical Research (BIMR)
BIMR is to conduct world-class collaborative research to cure human disease, improve quality of life, and thus create a legacy for its employees, partners, donors and community. The Institute conducts basic biomedical research and our philosophy is grounded in the recognition that most breakthroughs in fighting human disease come from basic scientific investigations. Moreover, the emphasis on basic research, as opposed to clinically applied research, means that Institute discoveries often reveal fundamental concepts and principles of cell biology that have broad relevance in a number of diseases such as Muscular Dystrophies.
